is a kind of the football game that was started in the Yamato-Imperial-Court era
(about 1,400 years ago). There are no victory or defeat. In the Imperial Court,
a ball meeting is often held, and description of a ball meeting is often looked
at by the ancient documents after the middle of the Heian era. It also came to
be performed briskly by samurai class at the Kamakura periodand. Through the
Muromachi to the Edo period, it spread even through common people gradually and
became the subject matter in various stories as Yokyoku, Kyogen, Ukiyo-zoshi and
so on. Marco Polo, an Italian traveler who stayed in China, heard Kemari by
Japanese Kemari player who was invited to Chinese court. Marco Polo brought
Kemari to Europe and it developed into soccer. Kemari is an origin of
soccer.
